Steven Gerrard
Steven was born on 30th May 1980 in Whiston, Liverpool. A product
of the Liverpool youth academy, Steven made his first appearance
for Liverpool in November 1998 as a substitute against Blackburn
Rovers.
By May 2000, Steven had become an integral part of the Liverpool
midfield and was awarded his first England cap by Kevin Keegan against
Ukraine at Wembley.
Since then, Steven's career has continued to go from strength to
strength. He is rightly now considered to be one of the world's
most complete modern midfield players. Skill, commitment, energy
and leadership are just some of the qualities that make him the
outstanding player he is today. There are few players who score
more spectacular or memorable goals than the Liverpool and England
man.
Domestic Success
Steven was a driving force behind Liverpool's hat-trick of trophies
during the 2000-01 season when the club claimed the UEFA, FA and
League Cups. The PFA Young Player of the Season Award in 2001 was
recognition of Steven's immense contribution to Liverpool's success.
Steven was first awarded the Liverpool captain's armband in October
2003. Since then he has acted as a talismanic figure for the Merseyside
club inspiring his fellow team mates to even greater achievements.
His influence was best highlighted in Liverpool's European Cup
triumph against AC Milan in May 2005. With his team 3-0 down at
half time, Steven scored the first of Liverpool's three second half
goals with a stunning header. After Liverpool's win on penalties
Steven had the honour of lifting Liverpool's fifth European Cup.
International
Since his first international appearance against Ukraine in May
2000, Steven has been a key player in the England national team.
He scored his first goal for his country in the momentous 5-1 win
over Germany in Munich in 2001. Unfortunately Steven was forced
to miss the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea due to a persistent
groin injury. However, since his return Steven has been one of the
first names on Sven Goran Eriksson's teamsheet and even gained the
opportunity to wear the captain's armband in Sweden in March 2004.
Next stop for Steven is to play an instrumental role in helping
fuel England to success at the World Cup in Germany.
Fuelling Steven's Performance
Lucozade Sport helps Steven to carry on performing at the highest
level. Statistics have shown that top midfielders, like Steven,
can run between 10 and 13km during a typical game, losing in excess
of 4kg of fluid through sweat and breathing. With scientific studies
showing that fluid losses of as little as 2% of body weight can
have a negative impact on sporting performance, Lucozade Sport has
been proven to maintain performance levels by supplying the essential
hydration and energy boost through to the final whistle.
'Lucozade Sport plays an essential role in my preparation, performance
and recovery', says Steven. 'At the highest level, the game is becoming
increasingly competitive and it is vital that I am fully fuelled
for all training sessions and matches. Knowing that Lucozade Sport
will supply me with the fluid and energy that I need lets me concentrate
on my game'.
In addition, Steven has featured in Lucozade Sport's TV advertising,
and as part of an on pack promotion offering members of the public
the chance to 'Win a Legendary FA Premiership Day' to a match of
their choice.
